Thursday, September 2, 2010 - The St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team made the trip to Circleville, Ohio to take on the Lady Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University today. This would be the first ever matchup between these two squads as OCU's inaugural season was 2009. The Patriots came out ready to play for the season opener as Mallory Arneson sent a long pass up the wing for Krista Russell to run onto and score the opening goal of the 2010 season only 34 seconds into the game.
The first 25 minutes continued the trend as the Patriots added four more goals before halftime. In the second half, the story was much the same. SCC scored in the 10th minute and went on to add five more in the half for the 11-0 win. The score sets a record for most goals by an SCC soccer team (surpassing the 10-0 win that the men's soccer team posted agains Kentucky Christian in 2009) and largest margin of victory for an SCC soccer team.
Patriot Coach Paul Patton was pleased with the effort, "While I didn't go into the game expecting to score this many, I am pleased that the team played hard throughout. Some parts of the game we played better than others; but regardless of who was in the game, everyone played hard and tried to stay with the gameplan throughout."
The scoring for the contest was as follows:
Krista Russell - 3 goals, 3 assists
Emily Caras - 3 goals, 2 assists
Paola Martinez - 2 goals
Ashley Lazaros - 1 goal
Amber King - 1 goal
Rachel Stevenson - 1 goal
Mallory Arneson - 2 assists
Caitlin Campbell - 2 assists
Cheyenne Hess - 1 assist
Sam Osborn - 1 assist
Lindsey Vinson recorded the shutout in the goal for SCC.
