Thursday, September 17 - The St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team went on the road for a match at Midway College today. The match started off all Midway, with the Eagles pushing into the SCC defense and recording several shots on goal. Eleven minutes in, Midway's Ashtyn Abner opened the scoring with a low shot that found the goal. The Patriots would fight back to even the score a minute later when Amy Wurfel took a shot that the Midway 'keeper was able to get a hand on, but still went into th goal. Caitlin Campbell scored on a runout 7 minutes later to give SCC the lead. However, Abby Baylor scored for Midway with 20 minutes remaining in the half to make the score 2-2 going into the break.
St. Catharine picked up the intensity after the break, but despite long stretches of controlling the tempo, the game remained a back and forth battle with both teams earning chances to score. Krista Russell scored early in the half after beating a defender on the flank to give SCC the lead at 3-2. That goal would turn out to be the game winner as neither team finished another chance the rest of the game. Cheyenne Hess earned an assist for SCC, and the final score was SCC 3 - Midway 2.
The St. Catharine Women's Soccer team has now won 3 straight games to improve their record to 4-1 on the season. Next up they will host St. Mary of the Woods College in a game on Saturday, September 19th at 4:00 pm.
