Saturday, September 19 - The Patriot Women's Soccer team took on St. Mary of the Woods in a home match today. Last season, the Pomeroys defeated the Patriots 5-1 at St. Mary of the Woods, and the Patriots were looking to turn the tables today. The match started out well, with the Patriots playing at a high level, and the Pomeroys matching the intensity. Both teams had several opportunities, but no one was able to finish off a goal. The score at the half was 0-0.
The second half was much the same, with the Patriots taking many more shots on goal. The Pomeroys 'Keeper stood strong, making several saves to keep the score at 0. With less than a minute to go in the second half, the Pomeroys pushed deep into the SCC defense, and took a shot that looked to win the game. However, Lee Ann Walker came up with a big save for SCC to hold the score at 0-0 for regulation.
The teams would battle it out in overtime for another 20 minutes, but neither team was able to put away the game winner. The final score after 110 minutes of play was 0-0. This was the Patriots first tie of the season, and moves their record to 4-1-1. They will be in action again next Saturday at West Virginia Tech, to kick off Mid South Conference play.
