Friday, October 30 - The St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team played host to Mid South Conference rival Pikeville College today. The match was played at Mercer County High School in nearby Harrodsburg, Kentucky due to poor playing conditions at Barber Field on the SCC campus.
Last season these same two teams played to a 0-0 stalemate after regulation, and Pikeville prevailed by scoring in the overtime. SCC was looking for a little redemption today. During the first half, the play was mostly even, with some exciting end to end action. Both SCC and Pikeville were able to generate some looks at the goal, but neither team was able to score and the score at the break remained deadlocked at 0.
The second half was a much different story, with the Patriots coming out and playing much more aggressively. Seven minutes into the second half, Krista Russell put SCC in the lead when she scored off a pass from Caitlin Campbell for the Patriots. With 25 minutes remaining in the game, Russell would score her second goal of the game off passes from Natalie Hurst and Cheyenne Hess to make the final score St. Catharine 2 - Pikeville 0. Lee Ann Walker earned the shutout in goal for SCC.
