Tuesday, August 9, 2010 - Patriot Women's Soccer Coach, Paul Patton announced the signing of Southern High School standout Samantha Starkey today. "We are pleased to sign Samantha. She is an outstanding scorer, and a strong competitor and she will definitely be an asset to our program going forward. I am always excited to sign new players, but being able to sign a quality recruit this close to the start of school definitely makes it a great day for our program!"
Samantha starred for the Southern High School Girls Soccer team the last three years and set many school records; including most goals by a rookie (28 in 2007), most goals in a season (38 in 2008 and 38 in 2009), most career goals (104 in 3 seasons, 2007-2009). Starkey was also named to the All 24th Region Team in 2008 as well as to the All 14th District Team twice (2008, 2009). She was recognized by her teammates at Southern as Outstanding Sophomore, Rookie of the year, Outstanding Junior, Offensive Player of the Year (3 times), and Most Valuable Player.
In addition to her soccer accolades, she is also an accomplished softball player, and will compete for the Lady Patriots on the Diamond as well. She plans to study nursing at St. Catharine.
