Sunday, September 5, 2010 - In a match marred by injury, the St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team lost to Young Harris College 6-0 on Sunday. Young Harris had the better of the play though out the first half, with St. Catharine giving up 3 goals before the break. The early part of the second half was much the same as Young Harris scored on a corner kick play on later on a 25 yard lofted shot over the SCC defense to make the score 5-0.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, SCC freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Vinson went down with a knee injury and was helped off the field. The injury and several subsequent substitutions seemed to give SCC some added spirit as the Lady Patriots maintained possession and got several good looks at the Young Harris goal. Freshman goalie Kelsie Shumaker came in for the injured Vinson and played admirably, making several saves and allowing only 1 goal in the final 30 minutes.
The Lady Patriots are in action next on Tuesday, September 7 at Trevecca Nararene University in Nashville, Tennessee. The Varsity home opener versus Berea will be Saturday, September 11 at 2pm.
