Saturday, September 18, 2010 - The St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team has had mixed results, with two wins and a loss in the last three games.
The Lady Patriots hosted Berea College on September 11, and won big with an 8-0 score. Krista Russell led the scoring with 2 goals and 4 assists while Emily Caras added two goals of her own. Mallory Arneson added a goal and an assist with a goal each provided by Paola Martinez, Rachel Stevenson, and Sarah Castillo. Cortney Mattingly rounded out the scoring with an assist. Devin Gore recorded her first collegiate shutout in goal for SCC.
On September 13, SCC traveled to St. Mary of the Woods and came up on the short end of a 2-0 loss. The Pomeroy's won the game on goals by Erin Pugh and Samantha Morrison.
Five days later, the Patriots hosted Pikeville College for the first Mid South Conference match of the season. The Patriots controlled the game throughout and put two goals away before the halftime break. Emily Caras scored the first goal and later passed the ball to Michelle Dunaway who put away a blistering shot from about 23 yards out for the second goal. SCC controlled the second half as well, until Pikeville got through on a run out with 2 minutes to go and Junior Ashley Crutcher narrowed the deficit to 1. SCC hung on for the last 90 seconds and got their first MSC win with a 2-1 score.
The Lady Patriots now stand at 3-3-0 with a big game versus Spalding University looming on Wednesday.
