Wednesday, September 22, 2010 - The St. Catharine College Lady Patriots Soccer team played host the Spalding University Golden Eagles today. The match was mostly one-sided for the first half as the Patriots scored three goals. The first, off a cross from Michelle Dunaway, was headed home by Emily Caras in the twenty third minute. Krista Russell added two more goals off assists from Ashley Lazaros.
The second half was a much more balanced affair, with Spalding controlling the ball almost as much as the Patriots. The Golden Eagles cut into the deficit thirty minutes into the half on a long ball from Kelsey Troughber that bounced over the defense and found it's way into the net. Six minutes later, Troughber struck again, finishing a long shot off a free kick to cut the lead to 1. Less than a minute later, Emily Caras scored off a cross from Krista Russell to again widen the margin. Caras would cap of the scoring with a penalty kick after being fouled in the box with 5 minutes to play.
St. Catharine raised its record to 4-3-0 with the win, and will play Shawnee State this Saturday in their second Mid South Conference match.
