October 21, 2010 - On Tuesday, the SCC Lady Patriots Soccer team traveled to Ohio to take on Conference foe, University of Rio Grande. The game was a hard fought affair with the Rio Red Storm striking first off a corner kick only 5 minutes into the game. The Patriots fought back to match Rio's intensity and took the game into half-time still stuck on the 1-0 score.
In the second half, the Patriots pressured Rio's goal and had several opportunities to even the score. Michelle Dunaway just missed over the bar off a cross from the right side. Emily Caras's shot a few minutes later just missed over the bar, and Krista Russell's free kick was saved by Rio's keeper. Wtih the score still 1-0 and SCC pressing, Rio cleared a ball out and got behind the SCC defense on the counter-attack and slotted home a goal to make the score 2-0 with eight minutes to play. The score held up and Rio came out with the victory.
Two days later, SCC hosted the University of the Cumberlands in another MSC matchup. SCC scored first as Krista Russell put home a goal to give SCC the 1-0 lead. Cumberlands would even the score 15 minutes later and would pour on the attack to score 3 more by half-time. St. Catharine fought back in the second half as Krista Russell scored her second of the game to cut the lead to 2. Despite some strong play and several shots on the Cumberlands goal, SCC would be unable to come any closer and the final score would be Cumberlands 4 - SCC 2.
