The St. Catharine College Patriots continued their tough non-conference schedule Friday night with a game against visiting Mountain State, ranked fourth nationally in the latest NAIA poll. The Cougars entered the game with an 8-1 slate and left the friendly confines of Lourdes Hall with their second loss.
The Patriots overcame a 42-40 halftime deficit to record the 99-86 v9ctory. Brandon Johnson led the Patriots (6-2) with 27 points. Ervin Williams had 22, Antoine Watson 18, Marquis Lee 13 and Josh Edwards 11.
Doug Wiggins paced the Cougars with 19 and David Nyarsuk had 18.
The Patriots were outrebounded 46-44 by the much taller Cougars but forced the visitors into 24 turnovers while they had 17 miscues. St. Catharine was 27-45 from the foul line and Mountain State was 14 for 19 from the charity stripe.
The Patriots are back in action Tuesday at home against IU-Southeast. That game will start at noon as elementary and middle school students from around the region will be guests of St. Catharine for the game.
