Down most of the second half, the Patriot men battled back and outlasted the West Virginia Tech University Bears, 85-78 for their first conference road win of the year. St. Catharine made 29 free throws, 83% at the line and the Patriot bench out scored WVU Tech 48-12 to even out a cold shooting night.
Three Patriots scored double figures with Kashiff Carr knocking down 20. Carr was a perfect 3-3 from three point range and 7-8 at the line. Xavier Keeling tossed in 19 points with 8 boards, while Ervin Williams added 18 points and led the team with 9 rebounds. Brandon Johnson helped with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Patriots (8-2, 2-1), down by double digits much of the second half, tied the game with a little over four minutes to play. Both teams traded leads until the Patriots put the game away at the charity stripe. Nicholas Kjaerholt led the Bears (5-3, 1-1) with 17 points and 9 boards.
The Patriots are back in action at the University of Rio Grande (4-7, 0-2) tomorrow afternoon in Mid-South Conference action.
