Patriot Skipper Luther Bramblett has released the 2011 schedule for St. Catharine College Baseball. The Patriots will play 16 games against teams that were ranked in the NAIA pre-season poll and four teams that qualified for the national tournament last year.
"We are excited about our 2011 schedule. We feel like our schedule will help prepare us for the tough Mid-South Conference," noted Bramblett. "We want to stay sharp during our mid-week games and we tried to bring in some great competition for our home games. Without a doubt, this is one of the toughest schedules in the country."
The Patriots will open up with a four game set in Mobile, AL against the University of Mobile on February 4th and 5th. They will hit the road again the following weekend at #16 Union University in Jackson, TN for a four game set as well.
"With the weather here, we needed to go south to assure us of some games," commented Bramblett. "We also wanted to challenge us early to see how we'll compete on the road against top competition."
SCC opens up home play at Edelen-Haydon Field with Holy Cross College and Goshen College playing a weekend series, February 18th-20th. The following weekend the Patriots host Indiana Wesleyan University for a four game set and play Miami-Middletown College in a double header.
The Patriots will play mid-week home and home games with Trevecca University and Union College, who received votes for the pre-season poll. Asbury University and NCAA DII Oakland City University will also split games. McKendree University and UC Clermont, USCAA National runner-up last year, will visit Edelen-Haydon for mid-week action.
This year, the Mid-South Conference will split into divisions for baseball. We will play everyone on our side and will play three teams from the other division. The Patriots will play in the Western Division and will host #17 Campbellsville University, The University of the Cumberlands and will visit Lindsey Wilson College and Georgetown College. SCC will play Eastern Division foes #25 University of Rio Grande and West Virginia Tech University at home and open up MSC play at Shawnee State University.
