St. Catharine College split a Mid-South Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at home against Pikeville College. The Patriot women dropped a 76-68 decision to the Bears but the St. Catharine men followed with a 97-83 victory.
The women placed three players in double figures led by Danielle Brown’s 15 points. Courtney Milam added 14 and Rianne Hofstraat had 10. The loss gives the Patriot women an 8-10 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the conference. Pikeville is 10-5 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-South Conference.
The men were led to the victory by Kashiff Carr who had 24 points. Brandon Johnson had 15 as did Ervin Williams who collected a game high 11 rebounds. Josh Edwards added 14 and Marquis Lee finished with 10.
The win puts the Patriots at 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Coupled with the Georgetown College loss to Shawnee State on Saturday, St. Catharine is now in first place by one-half game over Georgetown in the Mid-South Conference. Pikeville’s record fell to 14-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Patriot men are back on the hardwood Thursday with a non-conference game at Mountain State (West Virginia). Both teams return to conference action at home Saturday against Campbellsville University. The women tip off at 2:00 followed by the men at 4:00.
