After an opening season trip through Alabama and Tennessee that left the St. Catharine baseball team with a 1-7 record, Luther Bramblett’s Patriots found Edelen-Haydon Field to be just the remedy they needed. The Bat Pats won their home season opener Friday 11-1 over Holy Cross (Indiana) and then beat the same Saints team Saturday 11-0.
St. Catharine had 11 hits in Friday’s game with Adam Blair (Lebanon, KY) and Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, CA) getting two knocks each. The only extra base hit in the game was a double by Blair.
Matt Wagner (Brooks, KY), 1-0, allowed four hits in five scoreless innings to pick up the victory. He had eight strikeouts. Taylor Boone (Shelbyville, KY) worked the final two innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits.
In Saturday’s game The Bat Pats scored four times in the first inning and cruised to the 11-0 win behind the strong pitching of Adam Gillcrist (Burlington, KY), 1-0. The senior right hander allowed just one hit and fanned five in four innings. Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) worked one perfect inning in the five inning game against the Saints who are 0-2.
Garcia had two hits including a double and Luis Zeledon (Los Angles, CA) also had two hits in the nine hit attack for St. Catharine
The Bat Pats are back in action Sunday with a doubleheader at home against Goshen College.
