The St. Catharine College Bat Pat's continued their winning ways with a double header sweep of the Maple Leaf's from Goshen College Sunday by the scores 5-4 and 10-0. The highlight of the day was a no-hitter thrown by Matt Pavelich (Tucson, AZ) in the second game. The junior righty tossed 6 innings, had 2 K's and a second inning hit by pitch kept him from the perfect game.
In the opener, the Patriots broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when Luis Zeledon (Los Angeles, CA) doubled and scored on a Ryan Mangione (Lexington, KY) double. Alan Stoupa (McLean, VA) went 2-3 with a 2-run homerun and was the only Patriot with two hits. Mangione added 2 RBI's as well. Brad Krohman (Florence, KY) picked up his second win of the year in relief (2-0). Tim Paxton (Louisville, KY) got the no decision after tossing 5.2 innings. He allowed 4 runs, 3 earned on 3 hits. He tallied 11 punchouts.
Game two saw Pavelich (1-1) dominate the Leaf's with the first no-hitter in SC four-year history. The junior only threw 57 pitches in 6 innings. Stoupa went 2-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's on 2 doubles. Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY), Richie Stanley (Owensboro, KY) and Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) all had 2 hits in the game. Stanley added 3 runs and a double. Zeledon added 2 RBI's.
The Patriots are back in action Tuesday with a game at Asbury University.
