The Bat Pat's battled for 13 cold innings Tuesday with the game called for darkness in a 6-6 deadlock at Asbury University. The Patriots tied the game in the top of the ninth inning when Ryan Mangione (Lexington, KY) singled and eventually scored on a passed ball off Asbury pitcher Gardner Adams.
SC was behind 4-0 before plating two runs in the top of the fifth. Adam Blair (Lebanon, KY) knocked in Tyler Mischel (St. Louis, MO) who reached on a error with a sac fly and Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) singled home Mangione.
Asbury plated another run in the bottom of the fifth to go up 5-2 and the Pat's answered with two more in the top of the sixth. Luis Zeledon (Los Angles, CA) singled and scored on a Mischel groundout and Alan Stoupa (McLean, VA), who singled, scored on a wild pitch. Asbury answered with a run in the bottom half before Zeledon homered to right field to cut the lead to one, 6-5, setting up the ninth.
Both clubs had scoring opportunities in the extra frames, but couldn't find the winning hit. The Patriots tossed 8 arms at Asbury. Garcia ended up hurling 5 innings, the eighth thru the 12th. He allowed no hits and walked four, one intentional, and recorded 8 strikeouts. On the day, the Patriot staff tallied 17 punchouts in the 13 innings and scattered 9 hits. They gave up 6 runs, 1 unearned.
The Patriots are back in action Friday at Edelen-Haydon Field, hosting Indiana Wesleyan University. They play a DH starting at 1:00 and a DH Saturday at 12:00.
