The Lady Patriots opened their first home games with a conference sweep over University of the Cumberland's 3-2 and 12-7. On the mound for the first game was Ashley Hardin (Louisville, KY) who pitched solid through four innings, giving up five hits with one run scored. Courtney McHolan (Irvington, KY) came in with the save allowing five hits, leading to one run in the win.
The Lady Pats came out swinging in game two, putting up ten runs in the first inning. University of the Cumberland's caught up to pitcher Megan Beecham (Louisville, KY) in the fourth leading to Ashley Cardenas (Santa Ana, CA) coming in to close the game and get the win, giving up just two walks and two hits. "Megan pitched very well but they caught up to her quickly, which allowed Ashley to hit the mound for her first appearance as a Lady Patriot." said Coach Smith.
Smith added, "This is a great way to start our conference games. We played pretty well today going in with a good approach at the plate. What I liked the most is when we had the momentum we went with it. I love how we came out swinging the bats in game two, putting up ten runs in one inning isn't easy to do but we have to be more consistent with putting runs up every inning. I'm proud of the way we played today. I hope our momentum carries to tomorrow and our upcoming games."
On the day, Kasie Prather (Lancaster, KY) went 3-8 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Hagan Goldey (Lancaster, KY) went 4-7 with two doubles and two RBIs. Justine Paddock (Louisvile, KY) lwent 3-6 with a walk, a double and three runs scored. Beecham went 2-5 with a run scored and Chelcie Rein (Louisville, KY) added three RBIs to the day.
The Lady Patriots will be back in action Friday away against non-conference Midway College.
