The St. Catharine College Patriots (13-9-1) swept visiting McKendree University Tuesday 9-3 and 3-2 and have won four straight games. Anthony Thorn (Elizabethtown, KY) evened his record at 2-2 with the win in game one and Timothy Reed (Tucson, AZ) picked up his first win in his first career outing as a Patriot.
In the opener, Tyler Mischel (St. Louis, MO) led the Patriots with a double and homerun. He scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's. Ryan Mangione (Lexington, KY) added a 2 RBI triple with a run and Juan Moriel (San Diego, CA) added 2 base knocks and scored a run. Thorn tossed 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Cory Klinger (Rushsylvania, OH) recorded his first save of the year with 1.2 innings of work. He allowed an unearned run and tallied 3 K's.
In game two, Moriel scored what ended up being the game winner when Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, CA) knocked him in on a groundout in the 3rd inning. Moriel scored 2 runs and Hernandez added two RBI's. Alan Stoupa (McLean, VA) doubled and scored on a Mangione single to account for the other Patriot run. Reed tossed 4.1 innings to earn his first win, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Tony Krohman (Florence, KY) tossed .2 innings with a K and Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) picked up his first save with 2 innings of work. Garcia had 4 K's.
The Patriots play MSC rival Campbellsville University this weekend at Edelen-Haydon Field on the campus of St. Catharine College.
