PATRIOT BASEBALL SWEEPS TECH

Evens MSC Record

The St. Catharine College Patriot Baseball squad (25-18-1, 10-10) evened their MSC record in recording their first conference sweep of the season this weekend over visiting West Virginia Tech University.  The sweep jumped SC to third place in the Mid-South Conference West Division.

The Bat Pats scored four runs in the bottom of the 7th inning in game 1 with a Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) sac fly driving in the winner.  Cory Klinger (Rushsylvainia, OH) picked up his first win of the year in relief of starter Matt Pavelich (Vail, AZ).  Richie Stanley (Owensboro, KY) went 2-4 with 3 RBI's.  Juan Moriel (San Diego, CA) went 1-1 with 2 runs and Carlos Hernandez (Fresno, CA) scored 2 runs, going 1-3.  The Patriots won 6-5.

The Pats scored five runs over their last two innings in route to an 8-5 win in the nightcap.  Tim Paxton (Louisville, KY) struck out 10 in his complete game effort.  Stanley went 2-3 with a triple and scored 2 runs and Moriel went 2-2 with an RBI and run scored.  Luis Zeledon (Los Angeles, CA) was 2-4 with a double and Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY) went 1-1 with a run and 2 RBI's.

The Patriots exploded for 7 runs in the top of the first inning in route to a 14-4 win in 5 innings.  Adam Gillcrist (Burlington, KY) picked up the complete game win.  The Bat Pats banged out 13 hits with Garcia going 2-2 with a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBI's.  Stanley doubled and scored 2 runs and Zeledon added 2 runs and 2 RBI's.  Tyler Mischel (St. Louis, MO) went 2-3 with a run scored.

The Patriot bats stayed hot as they ripped 11 hits on way to an 11-1 win in 6 innings.  Alan Stoupa (McLean, VA) went 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI's.  Adam Blair (Lebanon, KY) added a 2-2 day with an RBI.  Stanley went 1-2 with 3 runs, 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases.  Josh Jillson (Wales, ME) tossed five innings to pick up the win.

The Patriots play a midweek game with Trevecca University at home Tuesday and then travel to MSC rival Georgetown College friday.
