Thursday, April 21, 2011 - The Patriot Women's Soccer Team added another player to their already outstanding recruiting class when Katie Gustafson signed with the program today.
Gustafson, a midfielder for Coach Jason Earnest's Anderson County High School Lady Bearcats team, signed an NAIA scholarship contract during a ceremony in the Anderson County High School media center this afternoon. When asked why she chose St. Catharine, Katie stated, "I liked the small size of St. Catharine and they have a strong psychology program." Katie plans to study psychology in addition to playing soccer while at SCC.
Katie currently coaches an Under 10 girls soccer team in Anderson County and works as a trainer for an Under 12 Competitive boys team as well. She is a certified soccer referee and serves as a mentor in the young referee development program in the Anderson County Youth Soccer Association. She also runs track at Anderson County High School and has played basketball in the past.
"I am excited to sign Katie today," stated Coach Patton after the signing. "She can play outside mid as well as defender, and I like that versatility. She also has good size and athleticism and that will serve her well at the next level."
