Friday, April 22, 2011 - The day after her eighteenth birthday, Nelson County High School standout midfielder, Porshia Clark chose to play her collegiate soccer at nearby St. Catharine College.

Clark, a resident of New Haven signed an NAIA Scholarship Contract while surrounded by her parents, coaches, and teammates in a ceremony at the Nelson County High School Library this afternoon.  Porshia earned both athletic and academic accolades during her time playing midfield for Coach Mike Glass' Lady Cardinal team.  In addition to her high school team, Porshia played competitive club soccer for Nelson Elite, Javanon, and United 1996 FC over the last several years.

Porshia was named to the S.O.N. Cup All Tournament Team, won the Coaches Award in 2010, led Nelson County in goals scored in 2007 and 2008, and was a four year Academic All-American.  She was  also a member of the National Honor Society, Young Leaders, FCA, FFA, and Pep Club.  She was named Freshman of the Month, won first place in the FFA Impromptu Speech Contest, and was a four year honor role student.  She plans to focus her studies on the Medical Field and has a goal to graduate from St. Catharine with honors.

"Today is a good day for St. Catharine Women's Soccer," noted Head Coach Paul Patton, who was present at the signing.  We are very excited that Porshia has chosen to join our program.  Not only is she a strong soccer player that will help us improve, but she is an outstanding student with a great academic record.  I am sure she will excel both in the classroom and on the pitch!"
