The Patriots hit the road Wednesday and played NCAA D1 Southeast Missouri State University, where they walked away with an upset win by the score 11-9. SEMO (5-3) opened the season winning two of three from #17 Alabama and split with Purdue University. The Bat Pats (6-2) came off a weekend where they swept visiting Indiana University Northwest.
Junior Travis Adams (3-0) picked up the win in relief, tossing the final 5.2 innings. Adams struck out 6 Redhawks and allowed no runs on two hits. Nick Holmes started and pitched into the third. Andy Dietz hurled 1.1 innings and had 2 K's.
The Bat Pats were led at the plate by junior Philip Dean who went 3-4 with a double and 3-run homerun. Dean also swiped four bags. Sophomore Shane Young went 2-4 with a homerun and had 4 RBI. Juniors Brian and Patrick Jones each had two hits and scored 5 runs between them.
"It was a big win for us," noted Patriot skipper Coach Bramblett. "SEMO really swing the bats. They helped us with several errors, but we took advantage of those opportunities. Our guys really competed today."
