The St. Catharine College baseball squad (8-3) erased a two run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring six runs in route to a 12-9 victory over visiting Spalding University (1-12).
Junior Brian Jones (1-1) started and went seven innings to pick up his first win as a Patriot. The SCC defense hampered Jones as he gave up 7 runs with 1 earned. He had 5 K's and 2 BB and allowed 10 Golden Eagle hits. Red-shirt freshman Dustin Lewis tossed the last two frames, allowing 2 runs on three hits.
At the plate, the Bat Pats were aided by 13 free bases via Golden Eagle walks or hit batters and struggled at the plate early. But, the bats woke up with 8 of their 11 hits coming in the last two innings where they scored 7 runs. The Patriots were led by junior Patrick Jones who homered and doubled and had 4 RBI's. Sophomore Shane Young added two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI. Sophomores Ryan Mangione and Adam Blair both had run scoring doubles.
SCC gets back on the winning side at home and hopes to continue that streak with a DH against Cincinnati Christian University Saturday at 1:00. Sunday, the Patriots host a DH with Miami Middletown University at 1:00 as well.
