Blake Jones, head track & field coach at St. Catharine College, boosted his roster for next season Thursday morning by signing a pair of Bardstown High School athletes. Kameron Lackey and Keith Mattingly, both of whom throw the shot put and discus will join Jones’ Patriots next season.
“We are really glad to have Kameron and Keith on next year’s team,” said Jones. “They are good kids and come from one of the best track programs in the state.”
Bardstown head coach Jeremy Dale was equally excited with his athletes’ decision, although he said they will be hard to replace. “We are losing two good kids,” said Dale. “Both threw over 100 (feet) in the which is the first time we have had two do that in the same year. And they provided great leadership on our team.” lackey recently placed sixth in the discus throw at the state meet with a toss of 127’ 9”.
Lackey, the son of Latreece and Larry Lydian, was a linebacker on the Bardstown football team while Mattingly, the son of Peggy and Joey Wathen, played defensive end. Both said they will major in education at St. Catharine with plans to teach and coach following college.
