Officially it is the “off-season” for college volleyball teams. But you would never know it in looking at Adam Stevenson’s summer schedule. In between the regular recruiting regimen, the St. Catharine College head coach has kept busy with camps- both near and far.
“Last week we held a camp for three days at Caldwell County High School in Princeton,” said Stevenson who will be in his second season as head coach at St. Catharine. “We had high school players in the morning and junior high players in the afternoon.” The Patriots currently have four players in the volleyball program who graduated from Caldwell County.
The camps continue through most of the remaining summer until Stevenson welcomes his team to pre-season training in August. From June 26-29 a camp for junior high players will be held. From June 29-July 2 the high school camp will take place. Then an team/elite camp will run from July 13-16.
All camps are limited to 40 participants but Stevenson says there is still room in each camps. For more information Stevenson can be contacted at email@example.com.
As with any summer, Stevenson has also been busy recruiting. “We have signed eight freshmen who are really solid,” he said. “We will be really young with only one senior but we are bringing in some talented players.”
Stevenson has also brought in two new assistant coaches for the 2011 season. Jason McDannold will join the Patriots from his current position as Assistant Club Director for the Volleyball Academy of Lexington. There he was head coach of one of the two 17 year old teams. He also coached at Midway College for two years and was an assistant at Georgetown College last year.
Kristin Michael will join the Patriot staff after coaching last year at Eastern High School in Louisville. Previous to that she was the coach at Kentucky Country Day for two years. She is currently head coach of both the 15 year old and 13 year old teams at the MidAmerica Volleyball Association in Louisville. Michael played college volleyball at Asbury College and Union College.
Taylor Childress, who played on the St. Catharine varsity the last three years, will be a student-assistant coach for the Patriots this season.
