For her internship in Sports and Recreation, St. Catharine College student Jennifer Craig is required to plan and coordinate an event that falls within that discipline. To that end, Craig has delved into a quite ambitious project called the Lanham’s Health & Fitness “Back 2 School” Fitness Challenge.
The event, to take place in Bardstown August 6th, will include a two mile walk, a 10K run and a Mini-Triathlon. The triathlon will include a 300 meter swim, a 12 mile bike ride and a 5K run.
“This will be a great way to emphasize fitness as the new school year is ready to begin,” said Craig. “I am really excited about this project which I hope can carry over to become an annual event.”
All participants will receive participation ribbons. In addition, awards will be given to the top three male/female finishers in each of the eight age groups.
Packets for both the two mile walk and the 10K run may be picked up at Lanham/s Gym (751 Portland Ave., Bardstown) and the Bardstown City Pool will have triathlon packets.
Registration fees for ages nine and under are $10 before July 15th, $15 from July 16th to August 5th and $25 the day of the event. For those ages 10 and up the cost is $15 before July 15th, $20 from July 16th to August 5th and $30 the day of the event.
