This past Friday the men's soccer team started their quest to giving back to the community by serving lunch at The Lord's Kitchen City of Hope in Louisville, KY.
Ten of the players helped Carolyn and Richard serve and prepare lunches to over 70 adults and children. The players also mopped floors, washed dishes and swept sidewalks. The Lord's Kitchen is a food shelter that serves over 5000 meals a week over the summer months and the team was proud to help for at least one day. This coming Friday, twenty more players will volunteer at the other shelter in Louisville that serves more people daily. "It was nice to see the guys talk to everyone and see something that they knew existed but never had a reality grasp on how some people live." Coach Wolz stated. The team is in the process of planning a trip to a children's cancer ward and play a Kick It For Cancer Match against Hanover on October 4th. In May they hope to travel out of the country to work with communities to install water purification systems and help at orphanages. They are currently collecting shoes all around campus and the city of Springfield to help pay for the purification systems . The men's soccer team travels to Berea for their first scrimmage. The game time has been changed to 8 pm.
