The teams tried to declare a winner Thursday when the St. Catharine men traveled to Asbury University for a soccer game. But after two overtimes the Eagles and Patriots settled for a 4-4 tie.
While that left St. Catharine disappointed, Tim Wolz’ Patriots could also feel fortunate that they didn’t leave Wilmore with a defeat. Midway through the second half Asbury led 4-2. But with 18 minutes to play Sam Kpoh scored an then with six minutes left in the game Anthony Steele knocked a goal in off the post to tie the game.
Both team had chances in overtime but goal keeper Justin Mills came up big for the Patriots with six saves in the extra two periods.
St. Catharine will host Spalding University tonight at 8:00. That game will be played at Marion County High School. A women’s game against Spalding will precede the men’s game.
