Adam Stevenson’s volleyball team dropped the opening match game of the Mid-South Conference when they feel 3-0 Wednesday at Georgetown. The Patriots took a 10-1 slate into the contest while the Tigers, ranked 22nd nationally in the pre-season, had a 1-6 ledger entering the conference opener.
But the Tigers took control from the outset as they sprinted to 4-0 leads in each of the first two sets. They turned set one into a 25-15 win and won the second set 25-14.
In the third set the Tigers led 18-12 but St. Catharine rallied with a 7-1 run to knot the score at 19-19. But Georgetown took the next three points and pulled out a 25-22 decision.
“We got off to a very slow start but it was good to see our energy level pick up at the end,” said Stevenson. “”It just looked like we were ea step slow, moving in slow motion for the first two sets.”
The Patriots will now take a much needed break to rest some nagging injuries. Their next match will be at home Tuesday when they play conference rival Campbellsville. That game in Lourdes Hall will begin at 7:00.
