WALK OFF DOUBLE BY MANGIONE PLATES WIN FOR PATRIOT BASEBALL

The St. Catharine College Patriot Baseball Club (15-3) won its third one-run game (in the last three games), breaking a 8-8 tie on Ryan Mangione's walkoff double, over visiting Trevecca University (12-10). The Patriots have won 8 straight games, its longest winning streak of the season.

The Patriots used six arms in the nine inning matchup, with Jeff Strong (1-0) picking up his first win of the year in relief of Brad Krohman. Strong came in with the bases loaded and no outs and only allowed a run. Tim Paxton started and gave up 4 runs in 3.2 innings. Adam Gillcrist tossed 2.1 innings, surrendering a hit and 1 run. Morgan Jones pitched an inning and two thirds, giving up 2 unearned runs and Travis Evans relieved Jones to get out of the inning, inducing a pop up to end a TNU threat.

At the plate, SCC was led by Brian Jones who had a 3-4 day with an RBI and 2 runs, the last run scored was the game winner. Adam Blair, Jared Yates and Shane Young all had 2 hits and an RBI. Mangione had the game winning double and Young added a double as well.

The Patriots are back in action Friday where they host Pikeville College in the Mid-South Conference opener for SCC. Pikeville was swept by University of the Cumberlands last weekend. Start time for the double header on Friday is 1:00. The four game series continues Saturday with a 12:00 start.
