In soccer action Tuesday night, Patriot goalkeeper Lindsey Vinson was able to stop nine of the ten shots that the visiting Union Bulldogs fired at her. But the one that got by was all Union needed as they escaped with a 1-0 win in the contest played at Nelson County High School.
“We had some great chances but just didn’t get any shots to go in,” said Paul Patton whose team fell to 1-3 with the loss. “We played well against a team that beat Georgetown (a Patriot opponent in the Mid-South Conference) 5-3.
The Bulldogs, 3-2, broke the scoreless tie with 7:35 left in the game on a goal by Helen Weber. The Patriots threatened twice more but were unable to tie the score. Union had 21 total shots for the game, ten on goal, while St. Catharine managed five shots, two of them on goal.
The Patriots are back in action Saturday with a home game against St. Mary of the Woods. That game will be played at Nelson County High School starting at 2:00 pm.
