The chance of a letdown was possible Saturday when the Patriot volleyball team took on the visiting Shawnee State Bears, just 17 hours after they notched a big five-set win over the Rio Grande RedStorm. But Adam Stevenson’s team took care of business with a 3-1 win over the visitors, giving them a winning weekend in Mid-South Conference play.
The Patriots, 3-3 in the conference and 18-4 overall, stormed out of the gates in taking a 9-1 lead in the first set en route to a 25-12 win. They fell behind in the second set 7-0 but rallied for a 25-23 win.
The RedStorm (5-12, 2-3) took set three 25-20 but the Patriots closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set. St. Catharine trailed 16-14 in that final set but went on a 5-0 run and never trailed again.
The Patriots are at Midway College Wednesday in their next match. They return to Lourdes Hall on October 14th for a tri-match against IU-Southeast and Fisk University.
