The St. Catharine College Patriots have long sought an exhibition basketball game against one of the premier Division I teams in the state. But, while that won’t happen this year, J.T. Burton’s team has landed a scrimmage game against some quite talented players with University of Kentucky connections.
This Thursday at 7 PM at Marion County High School the Patriots will be playing the Big Blue All-Stars. The All-Stars are made up of former Wildcats including DeMarcus Cousins, DeAndre Liggins, Ravi Moss, Brandon Knight and Josh Harrelson. Also on the roster is Kenneth Faried, the former Morehead State standout who was drafted by the Denver Nuggets, and Shelvin Mack, the former Butler star who was drafted by the Washington Wizards.
Burton, whose Patriots are ranked ninth nationally in NAIA, sees the game as a winning situation no matter the final score. “This is all about having fun,” said Burton who is in his fourth year as St. Catharine’s head coach. “Of course we want to compete but it is just great for our guys to have a chance to play against NBA players. And it is good for the college overall to get such publicity.”
Tickets for Thursday’s game are available at three locations. At St. Catharine they are on sale at the Bookstore. They can also be purchased at Marion County High School in Lebanon and at Penn Station in Bardstown. All tickets are general admission for $15. Tickets may also be available at the door Thursday if the game is not sold out previously.
