St. Catharine Women's Soccer season is at an end after the Lady Patriots fell on the road in the Mid South Conference Quarter Final game on Saturday.
St. Catharine, the number six seed going into the tournament travelled to number three Campbellville University for a 7:00pm game Saturday night. The Patriots had played at Campbellsville less than three weeks earlier, dropping that match by a 3-1 score. The Lady Patriots were looking for the upset after a strong end to the season.
It was not to be on this night as Campbellsville pressured early and scored the first goal only 7 minutes into the contest. St. Catharine battled and had several opportunities but were unable to score throughout the game. The score remained 1-0 until the 75th minute when Campbellsville struck again to widen the lead. The Tigers scored one more goal for insurance in the last five minutes and the match ended with Campbellsville the victors by a 3-0 margin.
The Lady Patriots finish the season with a 7-9-1 mark. Despite the loss, Patriot Coach Paul Patton was optimistic going forward. "I think we saw a lot of progress this season," he remarked. "We were in every game and had several tight matches against opponents that defeated us by large margins last season. If two teams don't cancel games on us and we get a few bounces of the ball the other way then we might have three or four more wins this year. We have a great returning core group that is young and expect to bring in some great recruits. I'm excited to work with this group during the off-season and look forward to 2012."
