The St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team landed another outstanding recruit yesterday when Ohio County High School defensive standout, Julie Hirtzel signed with the Patriots. With her parents, Brad and Darlene Hirtzel by her side, she signed an NAIA scholarship contract to officially join the St. Catharine Soccer Program.
Hirtzel, a 5'9" central defender for Chuck Adams' Ohio County Lady Eagles team, earned All Sixth District honors in 2011, Region Three All Tournament honors in 2009, and was named to the All Region Three Team in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In addition to Ohio County Soccer, she also played soccer for the Owensboro United Soccer Club during the spring and played on the Ohio County High School Girl's Basketball team during the winter. Julie also earned recognition for her academic performance, gaining state recognition for her GPA every year in high school. She plans to study Criminal Justice with a goal of graduating and becoming a police officer.
St. Catharine College Coach Paul Patton, present at the signing, commented on Hirtzel, "Julie is an outstanding defender. She has size, speed, technical skill, and understands the game. I am positive that she will become an impact player for us this fall."
