St. Catharine College Baseball moved above .500 today with a 7-3 victory over visiting Berea College. The Patriots (4-3) rode the arms of the bullpen late and tallied 3 runs in the 7th to open the game up.
Seniors Juan Moriel (San Diego, CA) and Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) led the Patriots at the plate. Moriel went 2-2 with 2 runs, 2 doubles and an RBI, while Garcia went 2-4 with 2 triples, 3 RBI's and a run. The Bat Pats mustered only 6 hits in the game, but drew 7 walks and stole 5 bases. Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY) scored 2 runs, had 2 walks and stole 2 bags.
Jake Waardenburg (Klamath Falls, OR) started the game and worked 3.1 innings. He allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits. Matt Wagner (Brooks, KY) picked up the win, tossing 2.2 innings while striking out 2. Chase Dial (Shelbyville, TN) and CJ Gant (Louisville, KY) both hurled 1 inning each, allowing no runs or hits, while tallying 3 K's. Brad Krohman (Florence, KY) pitched the final frame without allowing a baserunner and punching one out.
The Patriots continue the home stand this weekend when they host Davenport University in double headers on Friday and Saturday.
