While the St. Catharine baseball team was playing a doubleheader Saturday in what continues to be an unusually warm winter, the Patriot basketball team endured a frigid climate inside Lourdes Hall. J.T. Burton’s team came out as cold as ice in a 71-58 loss to Mid-South rival Campbellsville.
The Patriots missed their first 17 shots from three point range and hit only 23 percent in the first half as they trailed 37-17 to the Tigers (20-8, 8-6). The final 13 point final margin is not indicative of the game as St. Catharine trailed by 20 points or more for most of the contest.
Delonte Taylor, who led the Patriots with 18 points, scored two quick buckets to open the game but by the time the Patriots got another field goal they trailed the Tigers 21-7.
Campbellsville didn’t find the Lourdes Hall environment too chilly as they connected on 54 percent of their first half shots and ended the game shooting 51 percent. They were led by point guard Cedric Henderson who had 22 points, nine assists and four steals.
Taylor was the only the player in double figures for the Patriots who shot 36 percent for the game including 4-26 (15 percent) from three point range.
