The St. Catharine College Patriot Baseball Team (14-9) saw their 6 game win streak end Tuesday afternoon when the visiting 12th ranked Union Bulldogs beat the Patriots 6-3. Union scored a run in the 8th to break a 3-3 tie and tacked on 2 more in the top of the 9th for the final margin.
The Pat's had numerous scoring opportunities, but left 7 runners stranded and 5 of those were in scoring position. Marcus Brown (Louisville, KY) led the way, going 3-4 with a double, triple and scoring a run. Another freshman, Charlie Pal (Deerfield Beach, FL) added a 2-3 day with a double and run scored. Andrew Garcia (Las Vegas, NV) went 1-4 with a run and Jeremy Turpin (Lawrenceburg, KY) and Juan Moriel (San Diego, CA) each had a base knock and RBI.
Jake Waardenburg (Klamath Falls, OR) tossed a strong 4 plus innings. He scattered 9 hits, gave up 3 runs and had 3 K's. Scott Clemmons (Shelbyville, KY) kept the Bulldog bats quiet for 3 innings, allowing 2 hits. Matt Wagner (Brooks, KY) suffered the loss, allowing a run in his inning of relief. Brad Krohman (Florence, KY) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning and Chase Dial (Shelbyville, TN) got the last out of the contest.
The Patriots hit the road tomorrow when they visit Brescia University for a 2:00 EST single game.
