Off the course, Joan has been active in promoting amateur golf around the state. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Kentucky State Golf Association. In 2005 Joan received the ultimate golf honor as she was inducted into the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame.

Coach Rizer has built the Patriot golf program from the ground up and has overseen its transition from a junior college program to a four year program with membership in the NAIA and Mid-South Conference. She was named the Mid-South Conference Women's Golf Coach of the Year in 2015.

About the program, Rizer said, “It is very exciting to come to work every day. I really enjoy getting out and recruiting these golfers. Our goals at St. Catharine are to be competitive and to represent the College with courage, integrity, courtesy and stewardship.”
